theMIND Welcomes Listeners to the "Other Side."

Zarif Wilder, better known as theMIND has unveiled his latest sonic creation, “Other Side,” a captivating glimpse into his forthcoming EP aptly titled Coffee Grounds. Teaming up with the talented producer Vooo, the Chicago-based singer effortlessly blends his vocals with a jazzy and oneiric soundscape that takes the listener on an introspective odyssey.

“Other Side” is a self-reflective composition that delves into the trials and tribulations he faced as an artist, particularly during his time under the mismanagement and mishandling of his previous record label. He vividly recounts his struggle, laying bare his frustrations with lyrics: “Only started buzzing 2016 but was I’ve been on the scene since ‘07, ‘09 / New kid on the block, I was trying to nd my shot / A true 4, I was forced to play 5.” These lines paint a picture of the limitations imposed on him, hindering his growth as an artist. Drawing inspiration from his previous project Don’t Let it Get to Your Heard, theMIND continues to share his personal testimony. He reflects on trying to find solace within his music despite his surrounding environment, “Made home inside these heights outside of my comfort zone / Trying to find myself in songs / Now I’m away from them shelter & foster homes.”

In the second verse, theMIND introduces Davionne, an angelic presence whose voice intertwines with his own. Her emotive lyrics and raw vocals deliver a stark truth that people will “hold you back, suck you dry and drain your mental.” A revelation that we can all relate too, even if we are removed from the music industry. However, the chorus serves as a reminder that in spite of the circumstances, we should always keep our “chin up / shoulders back.”
