It is unfortunate to see that despite the claims that America is the most civilized
of all nations, the one domain where there is great lagging is the rights of
the black population. The mental constructs internalized
in the thought process of the majority of the white people are hard to
expunge. It is as if, there is intrinsic resistance to overcoming these blocks.
The dominant race is torn between maintaining its supremacy in all domains of
life versus including minorities in mainstream decision-making. The outcry for
equal rights and growing receptivity of the people of color is a precursor to
greener pastures for these people but at the same time, it contests the status quo
of white hegemony that has been there since the beginning of American history.
This inherent pattern is similar to the model of a capitalist economy where the
business owners parasitically exploit the workers because of an advantaged
position and ownership over production rights. If this dominance was to be
challenged or shared, it will pose significant risks to the cartel of the capitalist
bigwigs. Similarly, it is not in the larger interest of white supremacists to
facilitate opportunity enhancement or equality of outcomes to their black counterparts
as inequality is vital to their interests. The media is one of the apparatuses
to ensure that the existing conditions remain favorable for one faction and
furtively exploit the other.
