Skylume, multi-account tooling for Bluesky

Overview

Skylume was a multi-account management tool for Bluesky. It scheduled posts, analyzed audiences and tracked engagement. I designed, built, deployed and operated it alone. The product reached 33 users over five months and 80 commits.

Work outside the request cycle

Scheduled publishing, analysis across thousands of followers and batch user operations do not fit safely in a single HTTP request. I moved those workloads to BullMQ on Redis and applied outbound rate limits to stay within the Bluesky API quotas.

Authentication without passwords

Accounts connected through OAuth for the AT Protocol, so Skylume never stored a Bluesky password. I implemented sessions, token refresh and support for multiple Bluesky accounts per user.

Stack and operations

The backend used AdonisJS and TypeScript with PostgreSQL and Redis. React was served through Inertia. Stripe handled payments and Docker packaged the deployment.

Product decision

After listening to users, I stopped selling the service. The Bluesky community explicitly rejected growth automation, so the commercial direction did not match the market. I documented the decision in the repository and kept the service online as a free, open source project.
