Embark yourself on an odyssey of extraordinary artistry and surreal expositions of the solo exhibition ‘Fragile Future’ by the multidisciplinary Dutch artists DRIFT, presently on view at The Shed. With multiple soul-awakening art installations that blend nature and technology to make the viewer feel reconnected with our planet, also to stimulate positive alternative answers for the issues it faces. The whole exhibition has the rectangular block element in some eccentric or subtle ways that will question the viewer’s senses to reappraise their perception. It begins with the work ‘Coded Coincidence’, a creative vision based on the movement of the elm seeds trapped in the breeze. Another installation ‘Ego’ where the block shape is woven with ultrathin illuminating fluorocarbon threads suspended to connect and go apart again, symbolizing particles the human world is made of. Followed by ‘Fragile Future’ constructed of a modular electrical circuit of LED bulbs affixed with real dandelions is “a critical yet utopian vision of the future of our planet, it conveys and elicits, emotion while simultaneously referring to the fact that light lies at all basis of life.” as the artist says. The final installation, an aesthetically striking creative wonder ‘Drifters’ of five massive concrete blocks floats midair, gliding across and spinning to a soundtrack by ANOHNI at The Shed’s 17000 sq ft., four-story-high McCourt space. ‘Drifters’ represents how an envisioned idea holds the power of becoming reality. After this one of a kind experience of ethereality, DRIFT wishes for the viewers to realize that the world we live in is just one version of what is possible and we can create everything that we can come up with.
