This test was done for a stretching app called AZ Stretch. The client had started doing ASO but had not looked into the graphics yet.
The icon used by the app at the time was just their brand logo. I suggested implementing a new icon using a stretching symbol and more attractive colors. The first icon created was with a woman stretching. The result was astonishing: the conversion rate was 3x higher thanks to this new icon.
Today, I am still optimizing the icon for them. Two other tests were done: changing the icon colors and the female symbol to a male symbol helped improve the conversion rate by another 80%.
