INTRODUCTION💡

VaccineApp is a centralised medication and vaccination records platform for mothers and children. It also serves as a vaccination tracker and reminder system with information on proper vaccination and medication routines as well as a database of vaccination and healthcare centres in a given location. The VaccineApp website was designed to promote VaccineApp.

PROBLEM🤔

Currently, there are about 400 thousand users of the VaccineApp but this does not seem like a lot when compared to the number of mothers we have recorded in the Nigerian healthcare system. A recent report showed that there are over 40 million mothers and at least 450 babies are born every day in the country. Generally, there have been issues of poor healthcare record keeping which often leads to miscommunication of patient data. This inherently leads to other issues ranging from the wrong medication prescription to the misdiagnosis of illnesses. Furthermore, very little attention is given to vaccination adherence in Africa. To drastically reduce these anomalies in the Nigerian healthcare system, VaccineApp was created to serve as a database and tracker for mothers and children. The website is also designed to publicise and educate mothers on the benefits, functions ad how to use the app as a lot of our potential users are not aware of the app.

GOAL🎯

Communicate the apps value proposition

To pass across a clear message about the Vaccineapp which we believe would be a need for every Nigerian mom. This website will highlight all the features and functions of the Vaccineapp, along with instructions on how to use it as well as show people how their data will be secured and encourage them to download it.

Drive App downloads

Today, we have over 30% of our potential users registered on the app but we want to have a website to highlight the functions of the app. The website will serve as an onboarding process that will help convert people who will know the app to users.

Drive Hospitals to vaccine App

A lot of hospitals have still not given access to their patient's healthcare data to be stored on Vaccine App. The website will provide more information on how we securely store their patients' data and encourage them to register and transfer for easy access by patients.

BUSINESS OPPORTUNITIES🧳

This vaccine app will prove to be a valuable tool for both public and private healthcare facilities as it provides a platform that will simplify vaccine administration and doctors' appointments for mothers and children. Healthcare records will be more secure and within the reach of the essential parties (In this case, patients and doctors) Doctors will also be able to monitor their patient's compliance with their medications.

MY ROLE👩🏾‍💻

I was the primary UI/UX designer for this product

DESIGN PROCESS📝

Over the next few next weeks, I worked through the design thinking process. I learned about the needs, wants and frustrations of users and designed a practical solution to create awareness about and enlighten mothers about the functions and features of the vaccine app.

RESEARCH📑

To begin, I surveyed 30 mothers who were having a hard time getting doctor’s appointments
I interviewed 10 other mothers who have newborns and met the qualifications above. I won’t show their faces but with their permission, I can show their baby bumps.

I asked questions about:

How their motherhood experience has been so far
Their healthcare goals and challenges for themselves and their babies
How they keep up with their medication and vaccination
Their feelings about an app that facilitates these experiences
From the interviews, I was able to categorise the interviewees into three categories for the user persona and work on the empathy map. Based on the interviews, this was the information I was able to gather.

EARLY IDEATION✍🏾

After understanding the user's pain points through interviews, we were able to outline our major problem statement(s):
💡 How might we design a website that teaches mothers how to use the VaccineApp and how do we assure them that their data is secured within the app?

USER STORIES🤱🏾

With the user problems defined, I began to look for solutions. The user stories were useful in better understanding the concrete functions my target audience would need;
Receive reminders for medication and vaccination appointments
Easy access to blogs where they can have access to credible information on healthcare.
Easy access to their healthcare records
Better and less time-consuming means of having appointments with different doctors
Keep track of them and their children’s medications and vaccination

SKETCHES✏️

In the next session, I focused on sketching my ideas with the main purpose of getting people to download the app. I put into consideration all the findings from our user research and I was able to inculcate them into my sketches and this is what I was able to come up with.

WIREFRAMES📑

After I received approval for the sketches I moved on to the wireframes. I designed wireframes for all the website screens using the sketches as a guide. These wireframes allowed me to map out my ideas effectively.

DESIGNS⭐️

I then turned these early designs into high-fidelity designs, I experimented with different colours, shapes and layouts. I initially settled for the red colour and the design came out all right. However, I continued to iterate the designs.

FINAL DESIGN🌟

Mindful designs enable us to be problem solvers, using our products simply as tools to make life easier for our users. Designing in ‘moments’ rather than ‘flows’ helps keep the interface open and flexible. below are some of the moments I feel should be important based on my research. Further research would likely uncover more use cases.
Proving the credibility of the blogs by showing research insights and sources.
Gaining their trust by showing how many mothers are using the app and how many hospitals are already on the app.
Showing the different types of doctors that are available to attend to their needs on the app.
Displaying how easy it is for them to access their medical history
Showing the ease at which to track medication and vaccines with reminders.

OUTCOMES✍🏾

Deliverables: Designed and prototyped screens illustrating a website to promote vaccination and healthcare record storage app, teach users how to use the append urge them to download the app.
Values: The vaccine app website provides value to visitors of the website and hospitals as well in that it equips them with ample information and functions of the app. This could be a major innovation in the healthcare industry.
ALL YOUR HEALTH data in one app
Making healthcare accessible for mums and babies

USABILITY TESTING🥽

To uncover any problem that I might have missed in the course of designing. I ran two rounds of usability testing with a total of 10 participants and it led to some improvements. Participants were asked to go through the app to test the crucial features. I observed the users’ behaviour as they navigated through the website, I also took note of how easily the participants could understand the tutorials on the website. Lastly, I identified any pain points or concerns the user had while using the website.
Issues:
More notations of the features
Some ‘Learn more’ buttons weren't functioning
Some of the words were too ambiguous for some users to comprehend

FINAL THOUGHTS🧐

What I learned- To trust the process. It is important to keep the user in mind throughout the design process. It is also very important to pay attention to the details

NEXT STEPS👣

Have a separate page for hospitals to understand the importance of having patient information on the app and also teach them how to put the information on the app.
A separate page for doctors to learn how to use the Doc chart feature
Offer rewards for downloading the app.
