VR Modelling
Being in front of your sculpt, add volume and create wrinkles just with a stroke, it is priceless for an artist. This quality of work is focused on the experience and not on the technical side of a digital software.
This allows you to spend more time working on your art, which at the end of the day means better results and less frustration. There it resides the magical aspect of VR software, tools are made to enjoy them not only to use them.
Using Shapelab
Here is where the magic begins. Being part of this environment involves you on a higher level with your piece. Speaking of my latest sculpt: The mermaid. There´s a strong bond beetween artist and artwork, forged on the way of getting there. And it is also conditioned to the medium.
The Mermaid
This piece took me from 6 to 8 hours, sketching took about 2 hours. I started placing down the basic shapes (spheres, cubes, and cilinders) that were going to structure the sculpt. After I got a general feeling of weight that was convincible I started smoothing down this structure.
Once thats done its time to get into detailing. Using the aplha masked brushes I got to make those wrinkles, and muscles came to life when adding some ernegetic veins. The hair and wings got quite realistic as soon as I spent some time creating creases and depths.
Final thoughts
The mermaid wouldnt have been the same if I hadnt have the chance to be so close to it and manipulate it so quickly. Creating new mesh with the brushes available literally feels like drawing lines on paper with a pencil. This is incredible for me because I feel completely free when creating.
