The Warehouses Studio Apartment
- Corona 6 & 3Ds Max -
From all the country's and places I’ve visited in my travels, I’ve always loved old brickwork buildings, I’ve always found myself imagining how I would convert and use them huge rustic windows to light up an apartment/ event space. I took a weekend break to visit some family down in London and stayed in a studio apartment which used to be a dock warehouse, this visit is what inspired me to design  my own space, with the idea of building it around these, beautiful exposed interior brick walls.

Design Stage Some breakdown / design ideas I pencilled down. I wanted to keep with a open plan design, with a raised platform above the kitchen area for the bedroom, allowing the person to look out over the living room.
Sketching is a great way for me to quickly get some rough ideas down on paper. The first drawing is my original idea for the floor plan, however I didn't like the way the kitchen was separated from the living space, as it didn't flow as nicely as I would like. Also, having the dining table in the middle would illuminate some great shadows, however it took away from the open feel.
In the end, I decided to go with the middle sketch layout as it flowed nicely, the extended counter in the kitchen eliminated the need for a dining table and would work for the modern, contemporary feel I was trying to achieve.
3D Mockups
Using the sketches I made I went into Max to block out the initial scene. Here I started to play around with different lighting options. I initially wanted the scene to be lit as if it was early morning. However it didn’t give off the effect I wanted, so I settled with a midday. This gave off some amazing light coming through along with some aesthetically pleasing shadows.
Early Renders
Above are some early design ideas. Originally I had planned for the main room to be quite heavy on the wood, I thought it'd be a nice contrast to the brick walls, but the more I learned about interiors and design, the more I pushed away from it and instead went more towards a modern feel. The couch seemed too 80's along with the coffee table, so that definitely needed to get changed!

Final Renders

I've definitely learnt a lot since starting the project, especially some really good lighting techniques and nifty ways to manage my time. I have loved being able to put my own spin on the project and create a modern, livable space.
Onward and upwards, bring on the next challenge, its only gonna get better from here!

A personal project based of a trip to London, when I stayed at my Sisters amazing apartment, which is built inside of what used to be an old dock house.
