Breaking Free from TikTok: A Personal Journey

Faith

Faith Garner

I’ll confess…I’m addicted to TikTok. I am addicted to the quick media burst that entertains my brain, but I need to stop. I feel myself being more and more reliant on social media, and I don’t like it. I do not want to spend my idle time aimlessly scrolling on TikTok until I see something that upsets me or rubs me the wrong way.
When I think back to before COVID times, I wonder what I did to entertain myself. I still had Instagram, but it wasn’t the same. I definitely read more books and watched more television or movies. I sometimes wish we could go back to a time before phones took over our lives, just to see what humans can accomplish outside of relying on their phones. Don't even get me started on AI.
I want to get back to being the person I was before TikTok took over my life. I have been researching different things I can do. I made my own list of things I either want to try or have tried, and it works for me.
Anything but TikTok:
Read more books
Journal
Organize (Cabinets, Closet, Fridge, etc.)
Workout
Gratitude Journal (Yes, it’s different from journaling)
Try a new recipe
Sew
Color
Skincare
Write
These are some things that I have either tried or plan to try to do instead of endlessly scrolling on TikTok. I am worried about our society and the way the world is changing based on social media. I do not want to partake in the negativity of social media influence.
Let me know what else you have tried to stay off of TikTok!
