Namoo - Short Film

Written and directed by Oscar®-nominated filmmaker Erick Oh (Opera) and produced by nine-time Emmy® Award-winning Baobab Studios, NAMOO is a hand-crafted, narrative poem come to life. Inspired by the passing of Erick’s grandfather, NAMOO—which translates to “tree” in Korean—marks Oh’s most personal work to date. The film follows the beautiful and heartbreaking moments of a man’s life, from beginning to end.

Once the handcrafted VR experience was near completion, the team at Baobab decided to create a 2D cinematic version to reach a wider audience. I joined the project to do all the compositing and help enhance the look of the film.

Using tools created by the developers at Baobab Studios, I rendered cameras from the Unity game engine to hundreds of image sequences for compositing in After Effects. Working closely with the art director, we transformed the colors and developed a subtle watercolor treatment for the final 2D version.
