Focus - AI Underwriting for re insurance

I lead the ML/AI-focused Focus Project at Hannover Re, where I developed a custom PDF viewer with advanced annotation capabilities, assisting underwriters in faster, data-driven decision-making.

"Focus," an ML/AI tool designed to assist underwriters in their daily workflow without causing any disruptions. The UI was meticulously crafted based on feedback and requirements from underwriters, ensuring it seamlessly integrates into their routine. The primary goal was to enhance productivity and ease of navigation within documents. One of the standout features of the Focus UI is its custom-designed PDF reader, which was tailored to match the specific needs of underwriters. This reader includes advanced OCR-based search capabilities that can even detect handwritten text, making it a powerful tool for thorough document analysis.

To achieve the best possible performance and user experience, the team built the UI from scratch using Remix with React. This combination allowed for a highly responsive and intuitive interface that could handle the complex demands of the underwriting process. By leveraging these technologies, the team ensured that the Focus UI not only met but exceeded industry standards for user experience and performance. This approach also facilitated the creation of a scalable and maintainable codebase, setting the stage for future enhancements and expansions of the tool's capabilities.
