I wasn’t looking for anything in particular, but suddenly I was captivated by a storefront unlike any other — shoes that looked like wearable pieces of art. Bold. Playful. Unexpected.

The designer? John Fluevog — a Vancouver-based creator...

known for crafting one-of-a-kind shoes and accessories. His motto says it all: Unique Soles for Unique Souls.

Fluevog has stores in cities like New York, San Francisco, Boston, Chicago, Amsterdam, and of course, here in Canada.

The Montreal boutique, located on the charming Rue Saint-Paul, is a world of its own.Wooden floors, vintage furniture, shoes displayed on walls and quirky stands, stone walls that reflect the Old Port’s nostalgic vibe — every detail feels curated.

The shoes themselves are something else: a mix of retro and futuristic. They’re bold, surreal, and a little heavy — not just in weight, but in presence.

The soles are engraved with inspiring phrases about dreams, the future, and exploration.

Even the decor joins the fantasy: metal robots, glowing mirrors (one says “Tu es magnifique!”), glittery socks, shiny shoe polish, and a glamorous salesperson who felt like a character out of a movie.

At the very back, there’s a small museum-like corner showcasing iconic designs from past collections — a tribute to craftsmanship and imagination.

Yes, I bought myself a pair of lilac sparkly socks. Of course I did.
