Many artists and design enthusiasts struggle to find a user-friendly website that provides a wide selection of high-quality tutorials.
Our goal is to organize all the content in a way that the user doesn’t feel overwhelmed, and improve the learning experience.
Target audience
Amateurs and professionals working in the graphic/art industry, age bracket 18-65
Project duration
December 2022 - January 2023
Research study details
My research goals were:
● Understand the current pain points and challenges faced by beginner artists when searching and viewing art tutorials online
● Identify the features and functionality that beginner artists find most valuable in an art tutorial website
● Evaluate the usability and user experience of the website
● Determine how the website's design and content affect user engagement and retention
We realized that is important to offer only content that the user is interested in, to not overwhelm the journey thru the website, so a search engine with filters is the best way to begin the user experience
Ideation: initial design concepts
We plan to have many user navigating the website thru their smartphone so we
have sketched wireframes on different size variations.
Paper sketches 1
Paper sketches 2
Lo-Fi prototype
The main flow begins on the home page and it ends on a dedicated tutorial page.
User testing and iteration
After conducting an unmoderated usability study we noticed the following pain points:
Users suggested to add text the filter under the search bar
include featured artist in the home page
Following the usability study I decided to include the findings on the home page to improve the UX experience.
Some other minor UI elements have been changed.
Final Mockups
Final Home page Design

Conclusion & takeaways 📣
We provided a user-friendly platform that can help art-passionate people improve their skills. I decided to opt for a dark theme but a future feature would be to leave the choice to the users. Accessibility has been taken in consideration: I used different size headings to establish hierarchy and I have used labels to make website accessible for users who need a screen reader. It was a fun project to work on and the final result was beyond my expectations.
