This project involved designing and building a personal portfolio website for a professional photographer based in Scotland. The aim was to create a digital space that elevates the photography while clearly communicating the photographer’s brand, services, and availability for commissions.
Problem
Many photography portfolios overload the interface with effects, transitions, or competing visuals—distracting from the work itself. The challenge was to design a site that feels premium and editorial, while remaining simple, fast, and easy to navigate for both creative viewers and potential clients.
Approach
The design prioritises visual hierarchy and restraint. A neutral colour palette and generous spacing create a calm backdrop, allowing each image to stand on its own. Typography was treated as a brand element—bold enough to establish identity, but secondary to the photography.
The gallery system was designed using a responsive grid, ensuring consistency across screen sizes while preserving image integrity. Navigation was kept minimal, guiding users naturally from portfolio exploration to pricing and contact without interrupting the viewing experience.
Outcome
The final result is a clean, editorial-style portfolio that positions the photographer as a professional brand rather than just a collection of images. The site balances creative expression with practical client needs—making it easy to explore work, understand offerings, and get in touch.
