Date Spark (datespark.ca) is a date ideas website for Greater Vancouver and Victoria. Couples browse ideas by mood, budget and neighbourhood, see prices and what's on this week, and turn any idea into a timed date plan in a few taps.
What I did: design, build, SEO, content system and growth, end to end. Before Date Spark I worked in digital marketing at Best Buy Canada and lululemon.
Design: the visual system, idea pages, category browsing and a phone-first bottom nav.
Build: Next.js on Vercel, with a planning engine that turns one idea into a timed itinerary with nearby stops, travel time, sunset and weather.
Technical SEO: over 1,100 URLs in the sitemap, including 887 date idea pages across Vancouver and Victoria, plus collection, neighbourhood and event pages. Pages are built with keyword-led titles and meta descriptions, one H1, a canonical URL and structured data (JSON-LD).
Speed, validated in Google PageSpeed Insights (Oct 28, 2026): desktop 97, mobile 86, with Accessibility 100, Best Practices 100 and SEO 100 on both. The main content paints in 0.9 s on desktop and 3.3 s on Google's throttled mobile test.

Why speed matters: a faster page keeps more visitors from leaving before it loads, and Google uses page experience, including Core Web Vitals, in how it ranks pages. On a site that lives on search traffic, both add up.
Content system: prices checked against each venue's own menu, events that expire on their own once they end, a city news section with 89 stories and 20 long-form guides.
Growth: newsletter signups, a Thursday picks email and Instagram.
