“The Weight of Loss" is a mixed-media assemblage installation that grapples with the artist's Solastalgia. Solastalgia is a melancholic disorientation caused by the environmental degradation of a once-familiar place. This piece acts as a ritualistic attempt to preserve a fading environment, case being a park in which the artist has spent most of her childhood. Natural found objects, irrevocably altered by human impact, intertwine with discarded man-made objects. This combination attempts to embody Timothy Morton's Ecological Thought, highlighting the interconnected web of life. Ecocritical text embedded within the canvas serves as a grieving voice, urging viewers to confront the impermanence of the natural world and our role in its transformation.
