The Problem

Event videographers record hours of footage from weddings, parties, and other events. Reviewing everything manually to find the best moments is time-consuming and exhausting — a single wedding shoot can mean 6–10 hours of raw footage to scrub through before editing even begins.

The Solution

MomentCut is an AI-powered desktop application that analyzes uploaded videos and automatically suggests the best highlights based on the event type. Instead of reviewing entire recordings frame by frame, editors get a curated set of suggested cuts they can immediately work with.

Process

Research Identified the core pain point: manual footage review is the biggest time sink for event videographers. Mapped out the workflow from raw upload to final export to understand where automation could have the most impact.
UI/UX Design Designed an interface that keeps the workflow simple — upload, select event type, generate highlights. The goal was to minimize friction so editors could get to the good stuff fast.
Prototype Built an interactive prototype to validate the core flow before committing to development. Iterated on the layout and interaction patterns based on early feedback.
Development Built the application using Electron for the desktop shell and Python for the AI processing layer. Integrated ChatGPT to power the highlight detection logic.
Testing & Iteration Released a first version, collected real feedback from an active user, and used that input to fix issues and refine the experience. The current version reflects multiple rounds of improvement.

Key Features

Multi-video upload — process several clips in one session
AI-powered highlight detection — automatically identifies the strongest moments based on content and event context
Event type selection — tailor the analysis to weddings, parties, and other event formats
Suggested cuts generation — outputs a curated highlight reel ready for review
Premiere Pro XML export — drop the suggested cuts directly into an existing editing workflow

Outcomes

The first release generated real user feedback that shaped the product's direction. Issues were identified, fixed, and the experience was refined across multiple iterations. The current version is actively being used by a videographer in their editing workflow.
