Picture this, you finally found a good spot in the library, you sit down, unpack your stuff, open the laptop and that’s when you feel it, nature’s call!. Should you pack everything up or leave it to chance? This is a predicament my friends and I frequently face at university. So for this year’s NwHacks, My friend and I made KAY/O (Keep an eye out). It’s a web app that uses your laptop’s webcam to keep track of your belongings while you are away and alerts you via text when something gets taken. If the laptop itself gets stolen, it still sends you one. This is because when the laptop changes location/shuts down, the heartbeat server notices the change and alerts you. You have to disarm it with a password for it to safely disconnect with the heart beat server. It was built with yolov8 and the twilio api in python. It ended up securing us an honourable mention at NwHacks.
