Redesigning 1stclassmaterial's Website for Student Engagement
Being a student can be stressful, especially when it comes to finding the right materials.
1stclassmaterial was built with one goal in mind: Reduce that stress to the barest minimum.
The website was supposed to echo that vision in the way it looked and felt.
But it didn't.
The information was there. The functionality worked.
But It just lacked personality.
For a brand promising to simplify student life, that emotional disconnect was a
critical problem.
1stclassmaterial's old website
The platform didn't just need an interface refresh; it needed an identity that felt like it truly belonged to students.
To achieve the new feeling I was looking for, it was clear that First Class Material needed more than a visual refresh. It needed a new visual identity.
And several decisions shaped the redesign \
Introduced dedicated benefit sections upfront so students immediately understand what the platform offers.
Reduced and restructured the content to make information easier to scan and understand because the previous website was text-heavy
Used bright, bold, and energetic colors that
better reflect the personality of the student audience.
Rather than relying entirely on photography or illustrations, I explored and combined both. This creates a visual language that felt expressive while remaining grounded in real student
experiences.
Every image and illustration was carefully considered. The goal wasn't simply to make the website more visually interesting, but to choose visuals that could communicate an idea before the user even read the copy.
Together, these decisions established a new visual language for 1stclassmaterial-one that feels more vibrant, approachable, and connected
to its audience.
The direction was also tested with students, who reviewed the redesigned experience and shared how well they connected with the new visual direction.
All of these considerations came together to shape the final experience
