πŸ’Ό Case Study: Krastie AI β€” AI-Powered SEO Content Platform

πŸ” Overview
Role: Founder & Full-Stack Developer Project Type: Production SaaS (Solo-built, operated, and maintained) Timeline: March 2024 – Present (Maintenance Mode) Website: https://www.krastie.ai
Krastie AI is an AI-powered SEO content platform designed to let users generate, edit, and optimize long-form content in a single workspace, combining a custom document editor with AI workflows and subscription billing.
βš™οΈ The Problem
Most AI writing tools focused on one-off generation. They lacked:
persistent documents,
real editing workflows,
and an end-to-end SaaS experience.
The challenge was to build a production-grade editor-centric SaaS, not a wrapper around an API.
🎯 Goals
Build a custom document editor with autosave and AI actions
Implement subscription billing with Stripe
Ship a secure, scalable backend
Support real users while managing abuse, bots, and deliverability
Operate the product post-launch, not just ship it
🧠 Responsibilities & Execution
Frontend
React (Vite) dashboard and document editor
Autosave, word count, structured prompts
Tailwind-based component system (no AI-generated UI)
Backend
Node.js (Express) API
MongoDB data models for users, documents, and plans
Custom WebSocket-based realtime syncing (pre-Convex/Yjs maturity)
Payments & Auth
Stripe Checkout + webhook-driven billing
Plan enforcement and subscription lifecycle handling
Verified email onboarding
Infrastructure
Railway deployment
Cloudflare for DNS, SSL, and performance
Webflow marketing site + Figma-driven design system
Operations
Bot mitigation and disposable email blocking
Email verification to recover deliverability
Post-launch hardening and system stabilization
πŸš€ Process
Competitive analysis of existing SEO and AI writing tools
Iterative build of the editor and backend infrastructure
Beta testing and UX refinement
Public launch and onboarding automation
Operational phase: abuse mitigation, infra tuning, and maintenance
πŸ“ˆ Outcomes
~25,000 site visitors
~3,000 total signups over the product’s lifetime
~300 verified users after implementing stricter email verification
Significantly reduced bot activity and improved system stability
Product transitioned into low-maintenance mode after initial growth phase
πŸ’‘ Key Learnings
Operating a SaaS is fundamentally different from launching one
MongoDB enabled early velocity but introduced long-term operational friction
Email deliverability and abuse prevention are critical infrastructure concerns
Real-time systems are significantly easier today with modern databases, but building one early provided deep architectural insight
Not every product needs a rewrite β€” freezing a system responsibly is a valid outcome
🧭 Current Status
Krastie AI remains publicly accessible and maintained in stability mode. No active feature development; focus is on security, uptime, and correctness.
