As CTO at a growing startup, I spearheaded the design and implementation of a highly resilient, scalable infrastructure to support a major launch event. The project required building the entire system from scratch, leveraging a multi-cloud approach to balance scalability, performance, and fault tolerance.

System Design and Implementation

The architecture was carefully planned to handle high traffic and diverse processing requirements, integrating key technologies and platforms:
MongoDB Atlas: Deployed for its robust, scalable database capabilities to support dynamic application needs.
AWS Infrastructure:
EKS (Elastic Kubernetes Service): Ensured containerized workloads were scalable and resilient.
S3 Buckets and CloudFront: Used for secure and efficient media storage and distribution.
Elemental MediaConvert: Enabled seamless media processing for content delivery.
Google Cloud Vision API: Powered our custom content moderation system by providing automated content labeling for user-generated media.
Serverless Architecture:
SQS Queues and AWS Lambdas: Implemented for handling notifications and internal processes, ensuring fault-tolerant operations.

Premier Event Performance

The platform faced its first significant challenge during the launch event for a major MMA fight. Despite the intense demand, with over 100,000 concurrent users, the system performed flawlessly:
Achieved zero downtime, showcasing the stability of the architecture under high traffic.
Efficiently processed notifications and other operations without a single point of failure, thanks to the serverless design.
Delivered media content seamlessly via the multi-cloud setup, ensuring an exceptional user experience.

Results

This successful launch demonstrated the power of a carefully crafted, multi-cloud architecture tailored to the needs of a modern, media-heavy application. My leadership and technical contributions ensured the platform could handle large-scale events, setting a foundation for future growth and scalability.
By leveraging best practices in cloud computing and serverless design, the system delivered on its promise of reliability and performance, positioning the startup for continued success in the competitive digital landscape.
