Allica Bank

Leading the design for Allica Bank's completely new product line

The spark

Allica Bank is a modern business bank built to give UK SMEs a faster, smarter alternative to legacy banking.
To support its next phase of growth, Allica partnered with Modu to create a suite of digital tools that turned fragmented financial data into clear, usable insight. The challenge was to bring multiple data sources into one intuitive portfolio view, helping SMEs and accountants understand credit health, spot risk and make quicker, more confident decisions.
I led the product and design programme end to end, from discovery through to delivery, shaping the UX strategy, aligning stakeholders and translating complex financial logic into simple, decision led journeys.
The result was a scalable, insight driven experience that made dense credit data easier to understand, act on and trust.

The challenge

The final product was delivered as a fully functional ReactJS application with a Kotlin backend, dockerised and deployed on Azure.
From a product and UX perspective, the experience was shaped around real customer needs, with tailored journeys iterated, refined and tested with target users. The focus was on turning complex financial data into clear, usable workflows that supported faster understanding and better decision making.
Behind the experience, adaptable microservices connected each entity through a hexagonal architecture approach, creating a more flexible and scalable foundation for future development.
The result was a secure, maintainable and production ready platform, fully aligned with the bank’s architecture, operational and security standards, while leaving space for continued enhancement and growth.

The approach

With speed critical, and the risk of third party integrations growing over time, we took a deliberately lean approach first. We built a low cost proof of concept to validate the proposition early, de risk the technical direction, and avoid committing to a full build before we knew the fundamentals would hold.
On the engineering side, the solution was packaged as dockerised, deployable containers to eliminate environment drift and keep delivery predictable across infrastructure. In parallel, I led the design exploration from day one, so that the moment the approach proved sound we could move straight into build with a clear product direction and no wasted cycles.
Once delivery was underway, we kept customer feedback tight and continuous, checking assumptions frequently with target users to prevent late stage surprises. The integration layer was designed for change, so adding new data sources or switching providers could be done with minimal redevelopment, protecting both timelines and long term scalability.

The outcome

We delivered in focused sixty day cycles, moving from a lean proof of concept to a scalable acquisition product without losing pace or quality.
The outcome was a modular credit analytics and portfolio dashboard that turned fragmented financial data into one clear, trusted view. Built with flexible integrations and a dockerised deployment, the platform could support new data sources and future change with minimal rework.
I led the product and design end to end, keeping the experience simple, the teams aligned and the UX quality high across every release.
