Hello everyone,
Here is my submission for the #FLORAMuseum Challenge: an animated short story titled Life is Beautiful.

Concept & Inspiration
I was drawn to a 19th-century Edo-period Japanese woodblock print from The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Open Access collection depicting a winter scene along a quiet river.
The original print captures a solitary, frozen moment in time. For this project, I wanted to explore the human story beyond that stillness—imagining where the fisherman was headed after a long day on the cold water, and what awaited him on the shore.
The Story
Across the misty, frost-covered water, a tired fisherman steers his wooden skiff toward land. Waiting on the snowy riverbank are his young daughter and an energetic little puppy playing in the snow.
As the boat breaks through the fog, the puppy perches up and barks with excitement, and the daughter waves eagerly. The moment the boat touches the shore, the fisherman steps onto the snowy ground and gathers his daughter into a warm, long-awaited embrace. Together with their puppy, they walk hand in hand past the torii gate toward the warmth of home.
Artistic Approach
My goal was to preserve the authentic soul of the original Ukiyo-e woodblock print. I kept the delicate sumi ink outlines, soft bokashi color gradations, and muted winter earth tones intact, using animation to bring gentle movement and emotional warmth to an archival masterpiece.
I would love to hear your feedback and impressions!
