Interview with KRVS General Manager Cheryl Devall

Quinn Foster

Cheryl Devall’s unique journey as a journalist and award-winning editor is filled with over 35 years of diversity, culture, truth telling, and diligent hard work. Her passion for storytelling, dance, traveling, and a yearning for ancestral culture led her to the Daily World Opelousas News, then KRVS Radio Acadie.
Founded in 1963, KRVS is a listener-supported media organization licensed to the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and the National Public Radio affiliate for Southwest Louisiana. The station supports locally produced programs, public media news, and a student station. In addition, they highlight the Creole and French languages and cultures throughout the region.
Le Louisianais interviewed Devall about her upbringing with Creole culture and Blackness in California, her journey to Lafayette, and KRVS’s initiatives and segments keeping Creole and Cajun culture flourishing.
