Project Overview The Money School is a full-stack personal finance education platform for Nicole Lapin. It combines a premium marketing website, paid course enrollment, a protected student portal, interactive worksheets, financial calculators, lead capture, and email marketing automation.
The Challenge The challenge was to turn a personal finance course into a credible, conversion-focused digital product. The platform needed to educate visitors, build trust, capture leads, process payments securely, and give students a smooth post-purchase learning experience.
My Role I worked across design and development, including frontend implementation, backend APIs, authentication, Stripe checkout, Kit integration, course access logic, the student portal, worksheets, calculators, and deployment-ready project structure.
Research and Key Insights A key insight was that finance education can feel intimidating, so the experience needed to feel trustworthy, clear, and motivating. Users needed quick proof of value, simple enrollment, and practical tools that helped them apply what they learned immediately. I also identified that not every visitor would buy on the first visit, so lead capture and email follow-up were important parts of the product strategy.
Design or Development Process I built the app with React, TypeScript, Express, PostgreSQL, Drizzle, Stripe, Passport authentication, Tailwind CSS, and Shadcn UI. The process focused on creating a polished sales experience first, then expanding into secure checkout, post-payment account creation, the protected course portal, progress tracking, worksheets, financial tools, and supporting pages. I also integrated Kit/ConvertKit as the marketing automation layer so users requesting the free lead magnet could be added to an email funnel.
Key Decisions and Challenges One major decision was simplifying checkout: users enter an email, pay first, then create their account after payment success. Another was making the portal progress-based, with module cards, worksheet completion states, and persisted course progress. A key challenge was connecting the frontend lead magnet experience with backend validation, transactional email delivery, and Kit API integration so the business could capture qualified leads without disrupting the user flow.
Final Solution The final solution is a responsive finance education platform with a long-form homepage, product pages, checkout, login, account flow, protected course portal, Vimeo lessons, 25 worksheets, 25 financial tools, lead magnet email capture, Kit marketing automation, contact forms, and Stripe-backed course access.
Results and Impact The project produced a complete, production-ready learning and sales platform. It supports course purchases, protects paid content, gives students interactive financial resources, and presents The Money School brand in a polished, trustworthy way. The Kit integration also gives the business a reusable audience-building channel, helping nurture visitors who are interested but not ready to buy immediately.
What I Learned I learned how important it is to connect design, business goals, and backend reliability. A strong learning product is not just content on a page; it needs trust, smooth onboarding, secure payments, clear navigation, useful tools, and a lead funnel that supports long-term customer relationships.
