Noob is a French web series based on a “Massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG)” type video game produced by Fabien Fournier.

The realization of this project focused on the design of an audiovisual production integrating a 3D effect, animations and visual effects, from an illustration taken from the web series.

In order to realize this project, I went through several well-defined stages.

Realization of the scenarios (3D, VFX, Animations, Editing) in order to clarify the direction of the project and to know all the elements to be produced.

Cutout of all the elements of the illustration through After Effects in order to constitute the plans of the 3D part. Deletion of elements,additional adjustments and retouching were necessary to perfect the plans, using Photoshop.

Creation and configuration of the composition within After Effects: production resizing (1920x1080px), choice of the number of frames per second (60 FPS), approximate duration (30 sec.), addition of the plans previously cut and insertion in 3D space, and configuration of the camera.

Creation of the various animations.

Creation of the visual effects (VFX) using plugins.

Editing of the production: camera path, Intro & Outro.

Assembly of the production on Premiere Pro: Insertion of the composition, research, addition and editing of the soundtrack.

Production export (H.264): 1 video file (.Mp4); 2 cover pictures (JPG & PNG).

Dimensions: 1920x1080 px.

Frames per second: 60 Fps.

Duration: 27 seconds.

Editing: 3D editing with a shot by 2-nodes camera.

All the elements and effects were made in After Effects by hand and using plugins like Red Giant.

On the other hand, I had to elaborate a very specific effect so that it could match to the type of spell used by Couette, the elementalist: water. This effect required me a lot of work to develop despite having followed a guide since its design is complex and the goal was to make it physically “realistic”. Furthermore, its conception pushed me to perform an operation that I had never been confronted before: to establish a “road” to follow by this effect, which I shaped in a 3D space, taking into account and setting up hidden parts (for example, when the water goes behind the character).

Working on this project was, on one hand, very interesting from a visual effects perspective, as it required me to have a sometimes different approach in order to achieve some of them, such as mixing multiple effects to achieve a specific result or mixing an animation with an effect. It also allowed me to develop a new effect based on a natural element: water. On the other hand, due to its complexity, it will have pushed me to improve my way of designing the visual effects.
