Case Study: Website Redesign for UCR Health Wireframe

Category: Medical
Timeline: January - June 2023

Overview

As a marketing intern at UCR Health, I played a key role in the assessment and initiation of a website redesign project. The objective was to address the challenge of directing patients to the correct services by streamlining and improving accessibility. Although I couldn't execute the redesign during my term, I contributed by creating wireframes for service line pages. Using Figma, I conducted research on other medical institutions' website structures and developed a wireframe tailored to UCR Health's needs.

Approach

Discovery and Analysis

1. SWOT Analysis: To identify areas that required attention, I conducted a comprehensive Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats (SWOT) analysis of UCR Health's existing website. This assessment guided the prioritization of improvements.
2. Research and Benchmarking: Utilizing Figma, I conducted research on the website structures of other medical institutions. This comparative analysis allowed me to identify effective practices and gather inspiration for UCR Health's website redesign.

Wireframe Development

1. Service Line Pages: Understanding the challenge of directing patients to the correct services, I focused on creating wireframes for specific service lines. These wireframes detailed the layout and content structure of the redesigned pages, aiming for enhanced clarity, intuitive navigation, and simplified access to services.
2. Tailored Design: Incorporating UCR Health's brand identity, I ensured that the wireframe design resonated with the organization's visual aesthetics. The goal was to achieve a cohesive and user-friendly interface that aligns with the website's purpose.

Result

Although the website redesign was not executed within my internship term, my contributions enabled progress towards enhancing the user experience and addressing patient navigation issues. Key outcomes of the project include:
1. Discovery Research: Conducting a SWOT analysis and benchmarking against other medical institutions broadened awareness of areas that required attention and provided insights into effective website structures within the industry.
2. Wireframe Development: Creating wireframes for service line pages laid the foundation for a future redesign. The wireframes demonstrated an improved information architecture tailored to the specific service lines, ensuring streamlined access to relevant services.

Conclusion

My involvement in the assessment and initiation of UCR Health's website redesign project as a marketing intern demonstrated my commitment to improving user experiences and strategic thinking. Through a SWOT analysis and research on other medical institutions' websites, I gained valuable insights that informed the wireframe development process. While I didn't execute the redesign, my contributions paved the way for a more streamlined and accessible website, positioning UCR Health to better serve its patients and community in the future.
