Gaffr is a football-first app designed for people who love the game but don’t have the time or patience for the headaches of traditional organising.
Gaffr lets players instantly book competitive or casual 5-a-side games without the chaos of group chats. I was commissioned to create a launch video that captures the frustration of cancelled matches and the excitement of spontaneous, balanced play.

Primary Goal
To create a short, high-impact motion video that quickly explains Gaffr and shows how the app solves the frustration of organising casual football.
The video should be easy to understand at a glance, highlighting the pain of cancelled games and the simplicity of “find a match, reserve a spot, play,” while staying fun and visually engaging.

My Role
I was responsible for the entire creative process from script refinement and storyboard creation to final animation and sound design, ensuring the video communicates Gaffr’s value clearly and resonates with casual football players.
Scope
Design and deliver a high-energy 30–45 second motion video that introduces Gaffr, a 5-a-side football booking platform.
Key tasks included:
Concept Development & Script Refinement – Shape a story that highlights the pain of cancelled games and the ease of finding matches.
Visual Direction – Create football-inspired style frames, a color palette, and typography that convey a dynamic, sporty feel.
Animation & Motion Graphics – Animate characters, transitions, and UI mock-ups to illustrate the app experience.
Sound & Music – Select upbeat music and sound effects to match the fast, competitive energy of football.
Multi-Platform Output – Export in 16:9, 1:1, and 9:16 formats for social media, web, and app-store promos.
Discovery & Briefing
Kicked off with a client call to understand Gaffr’s mission: make 5-a-side football easy to book and impossible to cancel.
Reviewed the Figma design files and brand guidelines to lock in color palette, typography, and key UI screens.
Defined target audience: casual and competitive footballers in Sydney looking for reliable games.

Script Development and Research
Collected references, market insights, and creative inspiration in Milanote, organizing moodboards, key visuals, and notes for quick iteration.
Analyzed reference promos and a key Product launch video for pacing and storytelling style.
Wrote and refined a script that moves from problem → solution → action, highlighting pain points (last-minute cancellations) and the app’s features (skill-matched games, Gaffr Rating, Gaffr Card).
Integrated concise on-screen text to keep the message clear and punchy.
