Healthcare advertising campaign design is filled with talking heads and dry dialouge. Charleston ENT needed a way to make ear-and-nose care something people would listen to. What better way than to let the ears and noses do the talking themselves, and make them the stars? Character-driven animated commercials gave nose and ear ailments their own lovable personalities, letting them tell their own problems in a way that was funny, memorable, and never once undercut the practice’s credibility.
One character took on a life of his own. “Sneezy,” the original animated nose, became so recognizable that the client asked for a logo redesign built around him — a mark that kept the campaign’s warmth while staying professional enough for a medical practice. From there, the identity extended everywhere a patient might encounter the brand: outdoor advertising built around the full cast of characters, an environmental mosaic mural commissioned for the flagship office lobby, the “Nosemobile” — a car wrapped in the cast of characters that zoomed from office to office — and a consistent visual system carried through the website and print materials.
The campaign ran for over 15 years. In that time, Charleston ENT grew from five locations to eleven, adding two surgical centers along the way. The work earned three Telly Awards, including a silver for a spot featuring the noses navigating the “metro jungle” of over-the-counter allergy answers, plus multiple Healthcare Marketing Awards.
The lesson underneath all of it: medical marketing doesn’t have to choose between smart and likable. Fifteen years of the same disciplined idea, built on humor instead of hype, didn’t just create awareness — it built a practice.
