Brand elements are essential to every company's image. Whether you’re a small LLC or large corporation, brand perception guides you into a successful future; if done correctly. Because it’s understood how difficult it can be to build your brand, here is a list of brand elements you might want to consider during the process.
1. Mission, Vision, Values. Building your business is more than day-to-day business operations, you also have to think about what makes you, you! Start by defining the characteristics of a culture you want your patrons to be attracted to. What values drive your stakeholders to believe in the company? Where do you see your brand in the future? Last, what's going to continue to drive your brand past your initial plans? Think about your long-term goals and you're well on your way.
2. Brand Extension. As previously mentioned, we want to go beyond the origin of your initial business plan. When you build your brand, you want to start thinking long-term and the benefits those goals could bring. Fenty Beauty, for example, began with a cosmetic line and has grown into multiple services across different industries. What will you become? Who knows, but don’t sell yourself short.
3. Brand Positioning. In a competitive market, the way your product and/or service is placed is extremely important; it’s all about the appeal and attraction to what you can provide. 4. Colors. Now that we’ve developed your company's cultural characteristics’ let's have a little fun with the color selection! Just like your logo you want to pick a theme that reflects that of the business and what you want to convey to your target market. Find out more about color selection and its importance.
5. Logo & Symbols. You probably already have a logo, but will you need multiple that represent you? Some brands have more than one icon to translate across different mediums, products or services. FedEx provides multiple shipping services and uses its logo to reflect that. For example, FedEx Office, Ground, and Express are in different colors, yet, the logo is the same. Play around with color, shape and textures to see what works for you.
6. Voice & Tone. We all know by now it’s not what you say, it’s how you say it. Choose a voice and tone that makes sense and pay attention to consistency across different platforms through your brand development process.
7. Select A Typeface. There are 4 main typefaces - Serif, Sans Serif, Scripts, and Monospaced. So how do you know which one is right for you? Like your logo, choosing a typeface that differentiates your brand is vital. When you say your company name what does that look like in your head? To make this a little easier try picking a typeface that’s reflective of your voice and tone. This will help narrow down your options when it comes to later picking your font.
