Phone2Action is a leading software on grassroots advocacy that allows its users to run campaigns and engage in social movements. These campaigns have the goal of acquiring advocates to take action on causes that matter most to the companies that run them.
Companies use advocacy to influence policy, by connecting people to decision-makers (at all levels, from local to federal politicians).
Problem
There are many ways of acquiring advocates and to catalog them into the platform, an import is needed. Before, the users were tied to getting in touch with support to import their data through an internal P2A tool that wasn’t available to general users.
This process was required every time the user had more advocates’ data to import. It takes much time and effort on both sides to do this task.
The import runs a CSV file that includes advocate information, such as name, address, contact info, custom fields, and more.
Process
During our business problem analysis, we conducted customer interviews to understand their previous process and determine the necessary features for a self-import tool.
After several months of research, user testing, and an end-to-end high-fidelity prototype we had these interfaces attached below as our solution.
Solution
The main objective of this project was to enable users to perform the process independently, thereby reducing the number of support requests for the Customer Success team.
The key points to reach with this new feature consist in:
Attach a main campaign with the import
Match system fields with the CSV file columns
Ability to adhere to custom fields within the system
Define tags for the importing
Options to configure the opt-in and out to email and phone
Review fields matching before starting the import
Summary screen to check the status and view a log

Outcome
Making it possible for users to run their self-importing without the need to rely on customer support made a huge improvement on the Phone2Action software. In less than six months of the launch, customers imported about 1000x and dozens of thousands of advocates’ data were imported to their company’s records already.
