Pink Floyd is a legendary British rock band, widely regarded as one of the most influential and innovative musical acts in history. Formed in London in 1965, the band became famous for its progressive and psychedelic music, complex compositions, and philosophical lyrics.

The Dark Side of the Moon is a seminal album by Pink Floyd, released on March 1, 1973. It is one of the most iconic and best-selling albums in music history, blending progressive rock with profound themes, intricate soundscapes, and innovative production techniques.

The 50th Anniversary release of the iconic album has continued being celebrated as Pink Floyd invited a new generation of animators to enter a competition, curated by Aubrey ‘Po’ Powell of Hipgnosis, to create music videos for any of the 10 songs on the iconic 1973 album. Pink Floyd have a rich history of collaborating with animators from the beginnings of the band (Ian Emes, Gerald Scarfe, etc.), and in some cases the visuals that accompany the songs have become synonymous with the music itself. The band gave all animators an opportunity to present a fresh take on these timeless aural works. Animators could enter up to 10 videos, one per song on the album. Winners will be selected by the panel of judges. The competition closed on December 31st 2023.

As a musician who spent 15 years immersed in the craft and as a devoted Pink Floyd fan, I felt compelled to join this competition. However, I wanted neither to lean on conventional methods nor dive headfirst into overly "cutting-edge" approaches. For the past decade, I’ve been designing stages for major concerts and creating video content to accompany them—a pursuit that naturally inspired me to seek something truly new.

By 2023, the emergence of AI-generated video content in global productions sparked an idea: why not blend these groundbreaking techniques with traditional methods to craft a hybrid form? This approach allowed me to bridge the familiar and the innovative.

Instead of dissecting the songs individually, I opted for a linear narrative approach, crafting animations that tell the story of the entire album as a cohesive journey. The result is an homage to Pink Floyd's artistry while embracing the evolving tools of visual storytelling.

The animation I created for Brain Damage was officially featured on Pink Floyd's official channels, garnering widespread praise and admiration.
