A Glimpse into My Adventure with Writing
You know, not many people get to keep loving the same things from when they were kids all the way to being grown-ups. When I was younger, I really liked drawing. I'd spend lots of time turning family photos into drawings that looked almost perfect.
I won't say those drawings were amazing, but my dad was pretty happy with his first portrait, even though it wasn't exactly like a professional artist's work. But as I got older, I stopped drawing. Mostly, because I couldn’t find time then.
But you know what stayed with me? Writing. Yep, words became my thing. It began with my dad's obsession with those crossword puzzles. Every day, we'd work together to figure out what words could fit into those little squares. It felt cool helping him out with those tricky puzzles. And when a word we'd already solved popped up again some days later, and he asked me, "Remember what a big forest fire is called?" I was ready with my answer, "It's 'daavaanal'!" I felt like a superhero saving the day.
I kept my love for words with me through school. As soon as I got English and Hindi books, I'd read them right away. Who cared about covering the books? I just wanted to jump into the stories and poems hidden inside.
But guess what? I never thought I could write my own stuff. What would I even write about? And why would anyone else want to read it? I had no clue. I knew one thing though, that my teacher wanted me to write something for the school magazine, and I didn't want to let her down.
And that's how it all started. With a cringy poem on politics.
My love for words led me to study English Literature. Writing became more than a hobby—it was a way for me to say what I felt. Then I found this app with a great community of writers. That's when I really got serious about writing. I joined contests, and even got one of my pieces published in an anthology of poems. I made friends who cheered me on to write more. But the app had some problems, and everyone went to different places. The best thing that came out of it? This writing habit stuck with me.
So, here I am today, writing about how I began to write.
You know, not many people get to keep loving the same things from when they were kids all the way to being grown-ups. But that's what happened to me.
