Chapter Six: Celebrating Success and Progress

Success is exciting for all of us, and makes us feel joyful! But success doesn’t happen by accident, and it doesn’t happen overnight. It comes from working hard, practicing and creating new strategies. Achieving because of effort makes us feel accomplished because we have overcome difficulties and setbacks to get there.

“Hope is wishing for a thing to come true. Faith is believing it will come true. Work is making it come true.” by Norman-Vincent-Peale

Famous icon Michael Jordan was cut from his high school basketball team as a junior because his coaches told him he was too short. At 5 '11”, he easily could have accepted defeat and tried a different sport. Instead he decided to give it his all. He became the greatest basketball player in US history, earning six MVP awards. His story isn’t rare. It can happen to all of us if we choose to push past our obstacles and work toward our goals.

Write some of your biggest obstacles below:

It is critical that when we succeed, we celebrate! Celebration encourages us and lifts us up in ways that we deserve. If we don’t enjoy our success, we might get stuck thinking that we are always working without a reward. Life has ups and downs, so make sure you recognize the ups!

What is one accomplishment that you are extremely proud of?

Small wins are important to celebrate, too. Moving forward with progress is an important aspect of accomplishing goals. With every positive action and decision you make, you are getting closer to the big success you are looking for. Without each step, you wouldn’t make it to the top of the staircase!

What are some ways you can celebrate your small wins?

Tracking progress is another big part of succeeding! When we see how far we have come, it can help us feel satisfied and give us an idea of what we should choose as our next goal. Some ways to track goals include keeping a journal, using a planner or asking a friend or family member to hold you accountable.
