I recently had the pleasure of working with ReefLine, an up-and-coming clothing brand, on a logo revision project. They came to me with a clear goal: to refine their existing logo to be more balanced and versatile. This project was a great example of how small changes can make a big impact on a brand's identity.
The Challenge: Imbalance and Complexity
The original ReefLine logo had a few elements that the client wanted to address. The primary concerns were:
Font Imbalance: The existing font felt a bit off-balance, which is a crucial element for a brand that wants to convey stability and quality.
Complex Details: A piece of coral was integrated into the back of the letter 'e'. While a creative touch, it presented challenges for certain applications, especially embroidery, where fine details can be lost.
The Solution: Finding Balance and a Modern Touch
My approach was to simplify and modernize the logo while retaining the brand's core feel. Here’s what I did:
A New Font: I selected a light Futura-style font. This classic, geometric sans-serif font immediately brought a sense of balance and clarity to the wordmark. It's clean, readable, and timeless.
Streamlined Design: We removed the coral element from the 'e'. This decluttered the logo, making it stronger and more legible, particularly at smaller sizes.
Versatility for All Applications: Understanding the practical needs of a clothing brand, I delivered the final logo in clean SVG format. This ensures that the logo can be scaled to any size without losing quality, which is essential for everything from website headers to high-quality embroidery on apparel.
Social Media Emblems: To further enhance their brand identity, I also created a set of social media icons or emblems. These simplified versions of the logo are perfect for use as profile pictures and favicons where space is limited.
The Outcome: A Happy Client
The client was thrilled with the results. They appreciated the insight I provided on creating a logo that was not only aesthetically pleasing but also highly functional and usable across all the platforms and materials a modern clothing brand needs.
This project was a rewarding experience, showcasing how a thoughtful logo revision can provide a brand with a more balanced, professional, and versatile identity.
