Microblading

What is Microblading?

Microblading is a cosmetic tattooing procedure that's very common in the semi-permanent makeup world. But... is it really a tattoo?
Unlike the tattoos you're used to that are very VERY permanent, Microblading uses a handheld tool that has a blade with teeny-tiny barely visible needles that are used to create the eyebrows of your dreams. How? By slightly cutting into the skin and depositing pigment, realistic looking brow hairs are created in hairlike strokes by your Brow Master.
The result? Say bye-bye to that brow pencil/pomade/gel.. Matter of fact, just throw them all away. Just kidding!

So... Microblading is Not A Tattoo?

Well technically, Microblading is a type of tattoo, just a cosmetic one and it is most definitely NOT permanent.
Semi-permanent pigment particles are used in Microblading, resulting in a much more soft and subtle look compared to the stark opaqueness of a traditional tattoo.
Overtime, the color fades one to two shades lighter until they eventually disappear, unlike tattoos that get a greenish tint around the edges as they age.
Using a q tip dipped in misceller water is the best way to correct any errors with the brow pencil.

Who is Microblading Good For?

It doesn't necessarily have anything to do with how many brow hairs you have, actually - it's all about your skin! Microblading is appropriate for clients that have dry to normal skin. It fades faster on clients that have oily skin because the natural skin oils push the pigment out, causing it to fade much faster.
Whether you barely have eyebrows, sparse thin brows or very full brows, Microblading is perfect for you however, results may vary.
If you have any chronic skin conditions such as cysts or acne around your eyebrows, it is advised not to get such a skin invasive procedure to avoid any issues.

Cost, Duration, Effects on Different Skin Types.

On average, microblading can last anywhere from 1 to 2 years, depending on various factors. It costs 1,400 (Loti/ZAR). The procedure itself typically takes around 2 hours including the initial consultation, designing the eyebrow shape, and the actual microblading process. It's important to allocate enough time for the procedure and to consult with your technician beforehand.

1. Normal to Dry Skin:

If you have normal to dry skin, the microblading results tend to last longer. The pigment retention is generally better, as the skin type is less prone to excessive oil production. This allows the pigment to be retained more effectively, resulting in longer-lasting and more vibrant eyebrows.

2. Oily Skin:

Those with oily skin may experience slightly shorter-lasting results compared to other skin types. The excess oil can cause the pigment to break down more quickly, leading to a faster fading of the microbladed eyebrows. However, with proper aftercare and regular touch-ups, individuals with oily skin can still achieve beautiful and long-lasting results.

3. Combination Skin:

Combination skin, which is a mix of oily and dry areas, can have varying outcomes. The durability of the microblading results may depend on the dominant skin type in the eyebrow area. If the skin is predominantly oily, the results may fade faster in those areas, while the drier areas may retain the pigment longer.

Preparation, Precautions, and Post-Care Essentials

Preparation for Microblading:

1. Avoid Blood-Thinning Substances:

Refrain from consuming alcohol, caffeine, and blood-thinning medications or supplements for at least 24 hours before the procedure. These substances can increase the risk of bleeding and affect the retention of the pigment.

2. Avoid Sun Exposure and Tanning:

Minimize sun exposure. Sunburned or excessively tanned skin can be more sensitive during the procedure and may lead to less favorable results.

Precautions and Aftercare Instructions:

1. Avoid Touching or Wetting the Eyebrows:

For the first 3 days after the procedure, keep your eyebrows dry and avoid touching them to allow the pigment to settle properly.

2. Apply the Recommended Aftercare Products:

Gently apply the aftercare ointment provided by your technician according to their instructions. This will help keep the area moisturized and promote healing.

3. Avoid Scratching or Picking at the Eyebrows:

It is normal for the treated area to experience some itching during the healing process. However, refrain from scratching or picking at the eyebrows to prevent potential damage.
