Thinking Like a Scientist and Engineer: A One-Week Pacing Guide

Turn your kitchen table into a lab and your recycling bin into an engineering workshop. In five days, your learner will drop paper helicopters, chase patterns in real data, and build a device to save a raw egg from a two-meter fall.
This guide does more than fill a week. It builds the habits working scientists and engineers use every day: asking questions that can be tested, running a fair test, reading a graph, and defending a claim with evidence. Each day opens with a short recall warm-up, so Friday's learner still remembers Monday's lesson.
What your learner will do
Monday: study a mystery object and write three testable questions
Tuesday: fold, drop, and time paper helicopters in a fair test
Wednesday: graph the results and write a claim backed by numbers
Thursday: sketch three solutions to an egg-drop challenge and choose one
Friday: build, test, improve, and present the design
What you get
A day-by-day plan at about 60 minutes a day
Videos and simulations that are all free, each one I have used with my own students
Activities built from paper, tape, paper clips, and recyclables
A four-skill rubric so you know what "secure" looks like
A retention plan with review prompts at 1 week, 2 weeks, and 1 month
Who it is for Home school families with learners in grades 6-8, with notes for adjusting up or down. No science background is needed. Your job is to ask "How do you know?" and the guide handles the rest.
Short version (for a tagline or preview) Five days, household materials, free resources. Your learner asks like a scientist, builds like an engineer, and remembers it next month.
If by "colorful" you also meant a visual, I can make a matching cover for this guide in the same style as the CER one.
