GIVE PEOPLE THEIR FLOWERS

is a celebration of community leaders hosted and curated by Malcolm Voltaire + Kiya Lacey. As an ode to meaning of this pop up market, WW created a 3D rendering and AR installation for the celebration.

OBJECTIVE

To render an immersive 3D design that pays homage to the creators of "Give People Their Flowers."

THE PROCESS

Phase 1: Concept & Sketching| Inspiration & Planning
The idea was to create a surreal depiction of the essence of the honor it is to receive flowers.

This early sketch sparked idea to create the 3D rendering. The use of surrealism and a bold design was the focus as the concept sketch shifted to designing a proof of concept.
Phase 2: Design Iteration| 3D modelling, design, texturing, lighting

The hand and text design process all took place in Blender. At early stages there were text focused iterations where the flowers engulfed the actual word.
Phase 3: Final Rendering & Motion Design
The final render included the hand engulfed in flowers and dynamic text surrounding the hand, which rotated to reveal the "Give People Their Flowers" message. The motion design came to life in this GIF, showing the fluid motion and interaction between the text and the flowers.

CHALLENGES AND SOLUTIONS

One of the main challenges during this project was ensuring that the flowers maintained their realistic texture while fitting seamlessly into the 3D text. To solve this, I tweaked the shader nodes and lighting setup in Blender to strike the perfect balance between realism and visual impact.
The final piece was successfully shipped for use during the pop-up event, where attendees could interact with the AR installation, giving a sense of tribute and appreciation to the community leaders.
