Women have been driving change in the world for as long as there have been women. When they got the right to vote, they were able to influence legislation, making it possible for everyone to vote. Today, they are changing the world in ways that are often overlooked, from overcoming sexual violence to raising the next generation, to pressure on these women to have a perfect body and look like celebrities.
Reducing the stigma around mental health and the need for greater representation of women in society, the world of work has changed drastically as women have broken through the glass ceiling and have finally reached a point where they are equal to their male counterparts. The workspace is changing, and with that, so are the available jobs. Women are not just changing the domestic world, but they are changing the world in many ways.
Women are causing a rapid change in society today in so many ways that it would be impossible to list them all. This article will be reviewing a few ways women are affecting the world today.
THE ROLE OF WOMEN IN THE HOME
The burden of caring for a home is a greater task a woman is assigned to irrespective of who she may be in society. A woman is a helpmate to her husband who is the man of the house. She sacrifices her pleasures and ambitions for her family, relieves the stress and tension of her husband, manages the home, and takes care of the children. She is also gifted with the ability to maintain peace and order in the household, thereby creating the necessary environment for her husband and who provides for the home.
It is no news these days, although as heartbreaking as it seems, that our women who are supposed to be helpmates have taken up the responsibilities of the men in their homes and their husbands folding their arms comfortably while these women provide for the financial needs of the home. This makes the woman uncomfortable and puts her through stress.
We must most importantly remember that the burden of childbearing and raising children is one of the primary duties of a woman in the home. She is responsible for whatever habits the children exhibit, whether good or bad. The mother is considered the first teacher of her children, and even the spiritual support of her children. She takes out her time to nurture, pray, teach, protect and support her children both in good and uncomfortable times.
According to the great maxim Gorky, “only mothers can think of the future because they give birth to it in their children”. Women are perfect gifts from God as they sacrifice their lives and time for the future of society.
WOMEN IN TECHNOLOGY
Women have played a key role in the advancement of technology and computer science since its emergence. Women are an ever-growing part of the tech landscape. The introduction of technology has been a means of communication, building peace, and reducing gender inequality. It is a development in the international community supporting unity, reducing social barriers, and productivity around the globe.
Successful women like Ada Nduka Oyom- Founder of “She Code Africa”, Abiola Oluchi Enebeli- Founder of “Ladies Do Tech”, and many others have proven that they can be successful both in the tech space and the society as a whole.
WOMEN IN POLITICS
Women have influenced society in many ways as the increase of women’s involvement in politics has rapidly skyrocketed. Women like Funmilayo Ransome Kuti who was a radical voice for peace and change for women and she also was one of the people in the movement for Nigerian Independence. Other great women in politics are Aisha Abubakar, Rita Akpan, Kemi Adeosun, and many more, who have shown that women have been a driving force both in politics and family.
