5 Ways To Get New (and Newish) Clothes Without Shopping

I hate to shop for clothes, so I acquire them in other ways that are more creative, sustainable, and fun.

I don’t know about you, but shopping stresses me out. Even online shopping!
There was a short window of time when I liked to shop — that was way back when I was a teenager hanging out at the mall, digging for clothes at Wet Seal or The Gap. But gag-me-with-a-spoon, the mall is the last place you’d find me today.
Now, I could go the way of Lauren Bravo, a recovering over-shopper who spent a year not buying clothes and wrote about it in her book “How To Break Up With Fast Fashion: A guilt-free guide to changing the way you shop — for good” (which I’m reading right now and loving). But my closet is often reasonably empty as it is. I get clothes, wear them, get bored with them, and then either sell them on consignment, swap with a friend (more on that below), or drop them off at a thrift store. I like a lean closet with a few select pieces to work with.
So, if I hate to shop and can’t afford a fashion stylist, how do I get new (or at least new-to-me) clothes?
Here’s how.
