Beyond Walls: Reengaging Local Church's Community Using Design

Word Alive Church: A Christian-centered place of worship in Norwalk, Connecticut

At Word Alive, the desire is to show, beyond residents, a better way of life through Jesus.

While designing content, I built a social media strategy based on the pain point of how imbalanced the local neighbors and international supporters were not fully aware of the church's values and culture—beyond Sunday services. We also did not have many youth or young adults in our demographics actively interacting with our Instagram page. Still, we had many middle-aged adults or older sharing content which accumulated to sole flyers of upcoming church events.
So, I developed designs to push against both struggles, which in return grew our engagement to its highest.
More high school students and young adults attending our church began interacting for the first time with our content based on captivating visual aesthetics.
Our followers' growth increased daily with an average of 5-10 users hitting that Follow button within 3 hours of posting on an average 3-5 day basis.
Our IG Reels viewership increased rapidly from <100 views on average to at least 3,000 viewers per post with a 10x boost in content engagement.
More church members also began to recollect and engage in note-taking during the sermon/message at our weekly Sunday services after creating more bite-sized presentations of expository key points and Scriptures through engaging, legible graphics.
We, ultimately, accomplished a mighty goal—to show our community members that we care about them beyond the walls of our building and choose to stay connected in an effective manner.
