CLAWS & CUSHIONS: PIXAR-STYLED ANIMATED SHORT FILM

Visual storytelling thrives on relatable emotion and character personality. I designed and animated a Pixar-inspired 3D short film for the official Kittl challenge hosted on Contra. The narrative follows a playful, fluffy cat that inadvertently destroys a luxury living room sofa.

Character Design
Character Design
Using an advanced AI-driven creative pipeline, I blended ChatGPT for script expansion, Kittl for graphic layout and compositing, Google Veo for motion generation, and synchronized audio engineering to deliver a studio-quality animated short.

CHARACTER DESIGN & VISUAL AESTHETIC

I focused heavily on establishing an appealing, instantly recognizable character design that embodies classic 3D animation principles.

3D Character Modeling Concept

Visual Appeal: Soft orange fur, oversized expressive green eyes, and exaggerated facial physics to heighten emotional reactions.
Texturing & Lighting: Cinematic subsurface scattering on fur, realistic cloth weaving for the sofa fabric, and warm studio lighting to match feature film standards.
Expression Palette: Curiosity, playful aggression, sudden panic, and innocent bewilderment.

PRODUCTION PIPELINE & TOOLSET INTEGRATION

I structured a seamless production pipeline combining prompt engineering, vector canvas layout, and generative motion synthesis.

Phase 1: Scripting and Prompt Engineering

I used ChatGPT to develop precise visual prompts and keyframe storyboards. By refining keywords focused on lens depth, subsurface lighting, camera angles, and character poses, I established style consistency across scenes.

Phase 2: Canvas Composition in Kittl

I brought generated visual assets into Kittl to build initial scene layouts, design title graphics, and refine visual balance. Kittl enabled me to tweak contrast, compose title cards, and export pristine frame assets.

Phase 3: Video Generation with Google Veo

Using Google Veo, I converted static character compositions into fluid 3D motion. I applied cinematic camera movements including slow zooms, pan shots, and focus pulls to maximize comic timing during the sofa destruction sequence.

Phase 4: Audio Engineering & Foley Design

To complete the immersive cinematic experience, I engineered a custom soundscape. I synchronized fabric tearing effects, playful purring, cat meows, and sudden orchestral stingers to emphasize comedic beats.

STORYBOARD BREAKDOWN

The Target: The adorable cat locks eyes with a pristine, plush sofa resting under warm morning light.
The Climax: Gentle paw scratches escalate into energetic clawing, leaving cotton filling flying across the room.
The Aftermath: The cat sits atop the shredded cushion with wide, innocent eyes as the scene fades out.

DESIGN IMPACT & TAKEAWAYS

By leveraging generative tools alongside a structured design platform like Kittl, I proved that solo designers can produce studio-grade short films efficiently.
Rapid Production Cycle: Condensed traditional animation timelines from months down to days.
High Narrative Impact: Delivered an engaging story that captured audience attention within the Kittl Contra challenge community.
