Our entry for the Rive Halloween Challenge: Indonesia’s scariest ghosts, made cute 👻
In Indonesia, Halloween scares don’t come from jack-o’-lanterns. They come from folklore. Friday night (malam Jumat) is when ghosts are said to wander, and two of the most famous ones are Pocong and Kuntilanak.
Pocong is a soul wrapped in a white burial cloth, tied at the head and feet, so he can only hop. Kuntilanak is the long-haired ghost in a white dress who sits in a banyan tree, known for her creepy “hihihi~” laugh.
Our idea was to take the ghosts Indonesians grew up being scared of and turn them into something cute you want to play with. So we put them in a misty graveyard, gave you a lantern, and let you poke them.
On a misty Friday night, they come out to play!
🏮 Move your lantern and they follow it with their eyes
🦘 Click Pocong and he does three happy hops
🌙 Click Kuntilanak and she giggles “hihihi~” as the night turns green
How we made it: Claude Code built the scene in Rive. It wrote the animation and the misty sky, then tested every click. We gave the final touch in the Rive Editor.
