Vehicle Transformation Design for Blaze and the Monster Machines.

Production design and vehicle concept work for Blaze and the Monster Machines, focused on creating clear, readable transformation vehicles for animation production.
The work combined concept art, visual development, vehicle design, material callouts, color direction, interior details, transformation notes, and production layout sheets to help different departments understand how each vehicle should look and function.

My Role: Concept Artist & Vehicle Designer

My role was to develop vehicle concepts and production design sheets that could be used by modelling, surfacing, rigging, animation, and production teams. This included designing vehicle forms, transformation details, interior elements, surface materials, color palettes, flame graphics, mechanical features, and functional callouts.

Creative Challenge

Each vehicle needed to feel bold, playful, and appropriate for a young audience while still being clear enough for production. The designs had to maintain the established Blaze visual language, support the needs of the episode, and communicate how each transformation or feature worked.
The challenge was not only to create an appealing vehicle, but to make the design understandable from multiple views, with enough detail for other artists and departments to build from.
In episode capture of rig transform.

Design Process

The production sheets were built as visual guides. They included hero views, front/side/top angles, interior views, scale references, material samples, color notes, mechanical details, and movement callouts.
These sheets helped bridge the gap between early concept design and final production assets. The goal was to make the artwork clear, organized, and useful for the teams responsible for building, surfacing, rigging, and animating the vehicles.

Production Details

Special attention was given to readable silhouettes, large graphic shapes, bright color blocking, flame graphics, material contrast, cockpit details, wheels, tracks, fins, thrusters, hydraulics, conveyor systems, and transformation mechanics.
Each design needed to look exciting on screen while still being practical enough to interpret as a production asset.

Vehicle Range

The work included multiple transformation vehicle types, including a big rig, speedboat, submarine, snowmobile, and other hybrid vehicles. Each design required its own logic, but all had to remain consistent with the established look and energy of the show.

Outcome

The final production sheets helped communicate the design intent clearly across the animation pipeline. They show my ability to develop vehicle concepts into organized production-ready artwork with clear form, function, materials, and visual direction.
