Enterprise Telecom Platform (STC-Kuwait) - 2.3M+ Users | Next.js, React, Server-Driven UI & Performance Engineering Role- Senior Frontend Engineer Client- STC Kuwait Project URL- https://www.stc.com.kw/en Project Overview
Enterprise Telecom Platform for 2.3M+ Users
As a Senior Frontend Engineer, I contributed to one of Kuwait's largest digital telecom platforms, serving over 2.3 million users.
The platform powers customer journeys including prepaid and postpaid services, SIM management, plan upgrades, bill payments, eSIM activation, roaming, device purchases, rewards, and self-service account management.
My primary focus was modernizing the frontend architecture, improving Core Web Vitals, implementing scalable Server-Driven UI patterns, establishing frontend quality standards, and enabling product teams to deliver new experiences faster.
Built using Next.js, React, TypeScript, Redux Toolkit, SCSS, Server-Driven UI, REST APIs, and AppDynamics, the platform supports millions of customer interactions while maintaining high performance and reliability.

The Challenge

A telecom platform operating at national scale faces challenges very different from a typical website.
The frontend must support:
Millions of authenticated users
Frequent product and promotional updates
High traffic during launches and campaigns
Fast page loads across varying network conditions
SEO for public-facing pages
Reusable UI across many business teams
Stable releases with minimal downtime
As the platform evolved, there was a need to improve performance, reduce release bottlenecks, increase testing coverage, and provide a more flexible architecture for future growth.

My Contributions

I worked as a Senior Frontend Engineer and technical lead across several key initiatives:

Server-Driven UI Architecture

Architected a reusable Server-Driven UI system that allowed backend-driven content rendering using Strapi and WCS.
This enabled product teams to launch UI updates with significantly fewer frontend deployment dependencies and improved collaboration across engineering and product teams.

Performance Engineering
Optimized critical rendering paths by implementing:
Code splitting
Lazy loading
Dynamic imports
Critical CSS optimization
Bundle size reduction
Image optimization
Performance monitoring
Result:
Reduced p75 page load time from approximately 12 seconds to 4 seconds, improving Core Web Vitals and creating a faster experience for millions of users.

Frontend Quality
Established frontend testing practices by introducing:
Jest
React Testing Library
Improved test coverage from approximately 0% to 60% across critical user journeys.

SEO Improvements
Supported Next.js SSR/ISR implementation for SEO-sensitive pages to improve discoverability and reduce content publishing time.

Cross-Team Collaboration
Worked remotely with Kuwait-based stakeholders while coordinating sprint planning, demos, architecture discussions, and production releases across multiple time zones.

Business Impact

The work contributed to measurable improvements across the platform:
Supported a production platform serving 2.3M+ telecom users.
Reduced p75 page load time from approximately 12s to 4s through performance optimization.
Improved Core Web Vitals, contributing to a smoother customer experience and lower bounce on key journeys.
Introduced Server-Driven UI patterns that reduced frontend deployment dependencies and improved delivery velocity.
Increased frontend test coverage from around 0% to 60% for critical user flows.
Strengthened maintainability through reusable components and scalable architecture.

Why This Project Matters

This project demonstrates experience building and evolving enterprise-grade applications where performance, reliability, scalability, and collaboration are essential.
It highlights my ability to:
Design scalable frontend architectures.
Optimize large-scale React and Next.js applications.
Improve Core Web Vitals.
Build reusable systems for multiple teams.
Work effectively in distributed, cross-functional environments.
Deliver production software used by millions of customers.
