/// PROCESS

For this car-themed apparel series, I aimed to combine the raw, industrial feel of brutalism with the nostalgic aesthetics of neo-retro design. The process started with visualizing how these styles could be applied to automotive culture, specifically focusing on bold shapes, sharp contrasts, and vintage car elements.
Conceptualization: The inspiration for this series came from my love for JDM car culture and streetwear. I wanted to create apparel that blends aggressive design elements, like hard lines and blocky forms, with retro visuals, including old-school car models and color schemes reminiscent of the '80s and '90s.
Initial Sketches & Layouts: Using Adobe Illustrator, I began by sketching out the cars in a brutalist style—simplified shapes and heavy use of geometry. These sketches explored different car models and how they could be stylized in a way that felt modern yet nostalgic.
Design Refinement: Once the layout was set, I transitioned into Photoshop to add depth through textures, colors, and detailing. I incorporated retro-inspired gradients, contrasting neon hues, and grungy textures that give each piece a worn, street-ready look. The balance of old and new was crucial, ensuring the designs maintained their car-centric focus while offering a fresh take on apparel design.
Final Edits: After fine-tuning the color palettes and adjusting small design elements, I finalized the apparel series. The designs were then prepared for print, ensuring they retained their boldness and clarity, whether used on t-shirts, hoodies, or other garments.
