A Musical Journey: Dystopia

Davin Crayle

Welcome to Dystopia!
This one is an original project of mine, where I want the result to be on Soundtrack quality in arrangement, composition and master all together. You may want to listen to the first three tracks right here!
Continuous piece:
all three together in one continuous piece
The first piece:
With the first piece, I wanted to describe the typical brutalist style of dystopia pictured in movies etc. I primarily used Synthesizers to build up the massive and big soundscapes and then bring some life and detail in with the orchestra. For this, sounddesign is the most important part to really make the music come alive
The second piece:
Here I wanted to show the emotional and dramatic side using an emotive piano and introducing soft orchestra with increasing intensity, ending in a calm nostalgic setting. Through more than a decade experience in classical music and improvisation, this is done quite easily.
The third piece:
This is more the orchestral side, with only partial use of synthesizers. Using strings, brass, woodwinds and various percussion, difficulties with arrangement can arise quite fast. But with a good intuition and some experience over the past years, problems get minimized and the result speaks for itself.

What did I use?

This project is entirely based on Midi notes in FL Studio. The piano part is the only one, that has been actively recorded (also Midi). For the Orchestra, I use the Symphony Series plugins in Kontakt, as well as some other Kontakt libraries for Percussion and Soundscapes. As synth, I love to use the recent Serum 2 update, which has been excessively used for these pieces, especially the first one. I also have basic experience with the Native Instruments Synths like Massive X.

How much time do I need?

I usually am a fast worker. These three pieces have been written and roughly mixed within 4 days, while not working full time on it. But generalizing this is difficult, because sounddesign can get a little tricky and revisions can make me completely rearranging things, so these are factors that can heavily influence that relation. But overall, things get done quite quickly, without loss of details and precision.

With this project I created a soundtrack level original composition.
