Here I redesigned all of the audio for a section of the Story Trailer for AC6.
I started by creating the background ambience for the setting, strong winds blowing dust etc. From here I put together the mech sounds using a combination of metal scrapes, clangs as well as hydraulic machinery.
The thrusters were made using recordings of fireworks and a gas stove, put through extensive distortion, EQ and compression to fit the visuals a lot better.
The guns were a lot of fun to make, thinking out of the box as I don't have access to giant chain guns for recording. I used a washing machine, that was duplicated several times, each copy pitch shifted significantly. I then added an auto-pan cranked up to help simulate the rotating/spinning of the chaingun. I then used a snare sample and a gunshot, blended over the top to complete the sound. This process was used for all the ballistic weapons.
The plasma cannon was simply a load of synth tracks edited heavily with saturation, EQ and I also used a thunderstorm sample but it's not very high in the mix, just used to add some additional texture - the cannon looks like it shoots lightning after all.
Very fun piece to put together and rewarding to figure out interesting solutions to the sounds I had to make.
