Overview

As a UX/UI designer, I collaborated with Pollution Probe, a non-profit organization dedicated to improving Canada's health and reducing pollution through research, education, promotion, and advocacy. The goal of the redesign project was to enhance the visibility and interactiveness of the website. A team of four designers, including myself, worked for three weeks using Figma and Miro to create a user-friendly digital experience that would encourage community engagement and support for the organization's initiatives.

Problem Statement

Environmentally concerned individuals eager to take action want to find ways to control/reduce pollution and its ill effects. However, they feel challenged to find the right agency as much research goes into distinguishing authentic organizations from fake ones. Given their genuine interest in environmental conservation, they want to ensure that their contribution is utilized to make a difference.
How might we help environmentally concerned individuals like Dianna access information about the initiatives they can support to help them achieve their goal of environmental conservation so that their actions encourage more people to align with this goal?

Solution

Re-designing the existing content-heavy website to a minimal, visually communicative one with a clear brand statement.

Empathize

The team researched Pollution Probe's website to improve its visibility and interactiveness to users. The research consisted of stakeholder insights, heuristic evaluation (usability), user interviews, and user persona creation.

Define

The Define stage of the design process involved conducting an "I like, I wish, What if" brainstorming method to analyze and identify changes to be made to the organization's current website. The feature prioritization matrix was created, and the top three features to be prioritized are:

Future Opportunities

Work towards the responsive web design for the organization’s website and look into building an app to increase interaction between the target audience and the agency.
Our research revealed that people are more willing to donate their time and effort before making a monetary donation. So we would look into providing volunteering opportunities easily accessible on the website.
Seek feedback from our stakeholders to evaluate and update our design to their expectations.
