I have finished volume 8 of the Demon Slayer manga. This was the last of the Demon Slayer that I do have. The next Demon Slayer book I have to read is the stories of water and flame. I do need to buy more Demon Slayer manga once I have the money to do so! The cover of volume 8 is Kyojuro Rengoku. I love the art of the cover, and the back of this manga. I feel as if the colors go very well together. I still love how there are flowers on the back of the manga. I was very excited to read more of the Demon Slayer manga as I was catching up with what I have seen in the anime.
The character's reference in the beginning is still helpful. I like having a fresh reminder. Especially since I haven’t read in awhile. Looking back at it I love that there is a background instead of just plain gray. It helps the page pop out, and can be an eye catcher. Before the character page there is Gotouge introduction. I always love reading these, and the drawing they do of them. It is nice to hear how the author is doing, and that Gotouge writes something different in every manga so far.
The chapters in volume 8 are 62 through 70. I always love the different drawings provided on the new chapter pages. I feel that they tend to stand out throughout the manga. The shades of dark and light help the pictures stand out. My favorite chapter drawing would be chapter 70: kidnapper. It shows the women doing laundry outside, and is such a change of scenery in what volume 8 is mainly about. I feel it illustrates the setting changes, and what is about to happen in volume 9 manga. I like that it focuses on one person’s facial expressions while the other two have their back turned. I love the details of the butterfly hair pieces. I always thought butterflies were so beautiful, and like how Gotouge included details in the wings. My favorite chapter drawing that deals with the main plot would have to be chapter 64: the strength of the hashira. The drawing illustrates the characters Tanjiro Kamado, Kyojuro Rengoku, and Akaza. The view from this drawing shows a different point of view. You can see Tanjiro looking at Rengoku, and Akaza fighting. Then the second image shows what Tanjiro is looking through his eye. The last image shows Azaka is staring. The second image does show that Azaka is staring at Rengoku. The details show what is happening, and what the characters had to deal with before this fight. You can tell that Tanjiro was fighting before Azaka came into the scene. Then you can see how Azaka, and Rengoku have been fighting. Another different detail is the facial expressions on Akaza, and Tanjiro's face. Tanjiro is showing his emotions through his eyes as he watches them fight. The only one to speak is the demon Akaza. In chapter 36: Akaza it shows the details of the demon. Akaza is the art cover for chapter 36. You can see his veins being visible, and I feel this just shows his strength, and how powerful he is as a demon.
My favorite scene in volume 8 would have to be when Gotouge shows Rengoku, and his mother. The flashback shows them together, and when Rengoku dies he gets to see his mother again. I loved seeing how his mother acted towards him, and showed where he gets kindness, and why he just smiles. How his mother acts is different than how his father acts towards him. Then towards the end where Kyojuro is dying he asked his mother if he did good with his strength he was given. I like how it brings back what his mother said to him in the flashback. He gets to know he did the right thing from what his mother told him to do. He is happy that he wasn't selfish, and was able to help people.
I honestly forgot that Muzan makes himself blend in with other humans. When getting to the part where he makes himself a child is when I remember that he can do this. It makes me wonder how many different looks or characters he does. As in the volumes before this one, and seeing in the anime Tanjiro runs into Muzan. He seems to act like he is human in the crowd, and has his own family. I am interested to see what other ways Muzan does blend in with humans.
Rengoku's father shows such anger, but towards the end you can see his real emotions. As he is sad that his son has passed away. He also shows misunderstanding because he assumes that Tanjiro is a practitioner of sun breathing. Tanjiro has no idea what exactly it is. I can’t wait to find out more about it as we don’t know very much. I am interested in seeing if Tanjiro, and Kyojuro's father will speak again. If his father will explain more about sun breathing, and if he knew Tanjiro's father. As it seems that Tanjiro's father would've known Tanjiro.
The last subject I want to talk about is the drawings on the page next to the chapters. I always loved them in every manga that I have read. I feel that they are simple, but I can enjoy them very much. It is very relaxing to view them, and like a breather from reading what is all happening from the story. I like that sometimes you get facts about the characters that are drawn. Towards the end of the manga there is one about Haganezuka. He has a fact about food, and that he loves mitarashi dango-soy-glazed dumplings. I have never tried them before, but it is something I would love to try.
